Paving Repairs, Lift and Relay in Auckland

Paving that has sunk, lifted, spread or gone loose underfoot can almost always be repaired rather than replaced. In most cases the pavers themselves are perfectly sound - it is the bedding sand or the base beneath them that has moved, and once that is put right the original pavers go back down and the area looks as it did when it was laid.

Lift and relay

Lift and relay is the standard repair for an area that has settled or become uneven. The pavers are lifted and set aside, the bedding layer is removed, the base course is repaired, recompacted and brought back to the right level and fall, and the same pavers are relaid, recut where needed and rejointed. You keep the paving you already have and the finished area matches the rest of the site, which a patch in new pavers never quite does.

Why paving sinks

Paving very rarely fails on its own. The usual causes are a base that was never compacted properly, water getting under the paving because the falls or the drainage are wrong, a trench backfill over a service that has consolidated, tree roots, or heavy vehicles running over an area that was only ever built for foot traffic or cars. A repair that does not deal with the cause will settle again, so we look for the reason before quoting the work.

Trip hazards and safety repairs

A lifted or settled paver on a walkway is a genuine liability for a commercial property, and it is usually cheap to fix. We handle one-off trip hazard repairs, uneven footpaths, settlement around drainage grates and manhole covers, and lifted paving in car parks and entranceways. If you have had a hazard flagged in a building audit or an insurance inspection, tell us the deadline and we will work to it.

Rejointing, resanding and restoration

Older paving often needs nothing structural at all. Jointing sand washes out over time, which lets pavers move and lets weeds establish. Recleaning, rejointing with the correct sand and resealing can bring a tired area back a long way for a fraction of the cost of relaying it. We will tell you honestly which of the two your paving actually needs.

Concrete and kerb repairs

Alongside paving we repair concrete driveways and paths, and damaged kerb and channel. If an area is genuinely beyond repair we will say so and price replacing it rather than sell you a repair that will not last.
