Exposed aggregate

Exposed aggregate is the most popular decorative driveway finish in Auckland, and for good reason. Washing back the surface reveals the stone in the mix, which gives a hard wearing, high grip surface that hides marking far better than plain concrete. The look changes completely with the aggregate chosen, so it can be specified to sit with brick, weatherboard, schist or a modern render. Honed and polished concrete

Honing grinds the cured surface back to a smooth, even finish that shows the stone without the texture of exposed aggregate. It suits entranceways, courtyards and commercial foyers where appearance matters and where a smoother surface is wanted underfoot. Sealing is part of the specification rather than an afterthought, and we will talk you through what each option needs over its life.

Coloured concrete

Concrete can be pigmented through the mix rather than coated on top, so the colour runs the full depth of the slab and does not wear off the surface. Charcoals and warm greys are the most common request, but the range is wide. We can arrange samples so the colour is chosen against the house or building rather than off a chart.

Plain and broom finished concrete

Not every job needs a decorative finish. A well laid, correctly jointed broom finished slab is still the most cost effective hard surface for a rear driveway, a yard, a service lane or a warehouse hardstand, and it is the finish most commercial work is specified in.

Commercial concrete: car parks, hardstand and traffic areas

A large part of our concrete work is commercial. Car parks, warehouse and industrial hardstand, loading areas, service lanes, footpaths through business parks, edge beams, speed bumps, roundabouts and traffic islands. Commercial slabs live a different life from a residential driveway, so they are built to the engineer's detail, with the base course, reinforcing, thickness, falls and jointing specified for the loads that will actually run over them.

We work regularly as a subcontractor to main contractors and developers, and are used to programmes where the concrete has to go in around other trades, keep a site operating and be signed off without a second visit.

Concrete paths, footpaths and edging

Alongside driveways we lay concrete paths, footpaths, walkways and concrete edging - to houses, through subdivisions, around retirement villages, schools and business parks. It is small work individually and it is the work people look at every day, so it is worth getting the falls, the jointing and the finish right.

What a concrete driveway costs in Auckland

There is no single rate, and anyone quoting one before seeing the site is guessing. The price of a concrete driveway is driven by the area, how much excavation and spoil removal is needed, the ground conditions and how much base course they demand, the reinforcing and thickness the job requires, access for the truck and the pump, drainage, and the finish chosen - a plain broom finish and an exposed aggregate or honed finish are not the same job.
