Airport, Industrial and Logistics Paving and Concrete
Industrial paving carries trucks, not people. A hardstand at a logistics warehouse takes fully loaded containers on the same wheel paths all day, a car park at a business park has to look good for the tenants and drain in a downpour, and everything at an airport is built under security and safety rules that most contractors never encounter. Pavecraft has been doing this work across Auckland for over 20 years, at Auckland Airport, at Highbrook Business Park and at industrial and retail sites across the region.
Our airport and logistics work includes the Landings Airport Business Park at Auckland Airport, the exterior works for the Quad 7 airport building, the DHL warehouse and the Hellmann's airport logistics warehouse, along with Highbrook Business Park, Briscoes at Silverdale and the Candida Building.
Hardstand and heavy duty paving
The right surface for a container yard or a truck apron is very often machine laid interlocking paving. Laid on a properly designed and compacted base, interlocking pavers spread heavy point loads, cope with the turning and braking that tears up asphalt, and can be lifted and relaid section by section when a service underneath needs attention. Where the design calls for concrete instead, we pour reinforced hardstand, loading docks, dolly pads and edge beams with the joints and falls that keep a large slab in one piece. See commercial concrete.
What we build on industrial sites
- Container yards, truck aprons and hardstand in machine laid paving or reinforced concrete.
- Staff and visitor car parks including line marking bays, islands, wheel stops and accessible parking, with the kerbing around them. See kerbing.
- Kerb and channel, speed bumps, roundabouts and traffic islands for internal roads and yards.
- Warehouse floor slabs and external concrete - dock approaches, ramps, wash bays and paths.
- Permeable paving and detention areas where the site's stormwater consent needs soakage on a large roof and yard catchment.
- Entrances and forecourts in granite, natural stone or exposed aggregate for the office end of the building.
- Excavation, base preparation and drainage under all of it, by our own crews and machinery. See siteworks.
Working airside and under airport rules
Work at Auckland Airport happens under the airport company's safety, security and induction requirements, with access controls, escort rules and vehicle restrictions that add time to every day. Our people have worked there across several projects and know how to plan a programme that allows for it. Pavecraft holds Sitewise Gold, the top tier of independent health and safety certification, so our crews are pre qualified for most main contractors' and site owners' systems before they arrive.
Programme, and getting the tenant in
On a logistics build the tenant has a lease start date and the hardstand is usually the last thing between practical completion and trucks arriving. We plan the paving and concrete to run alongside the building's fit out rather than after it, and we bring enough crew and machinery to hold the date. We work as a subcontractor under construction companies including Naylor Love, NZ Strong, Macrennie Construction and Teak Construction, and directly for developers and site owners. Either way the reporting is the same: the site manager knows each morning what will be finished by the evening.
Maintaining an existing yard
An industrial yard that has been in service for years will have rutted wheel paths, settled trench lines and broken kerbs. Our repair crews lift and relay paved areas, replace failed concrete panels and rebuild kerbing, staged so the yard keeps operating around the work.
